The paint color palette is pretty much the same as the kitchen, however here we are going to add a couple of beautiful pieces to enhance this great room.

Hey PeepsThis is the second in a multi-post series about creating the ideal color palette for your home. In the first post, we explored where to begin and how to draw inspiration for your home’s colors, using one house as a case study. We looked first at the kitchen, and now we move into the living room or great room. This is fun, guys, so hold on tight because this is not going to be a bumpy ride at all.How to Create a Color Palette for Your Entire Home Part 2: The Living/Great Room Starting with the largest new piece for this room, the sofa, this fabulous piece from Room & Board with classic Danish design and casual comfort is inviting, comfortable and is an anchor piece in the room. How to Create a Color Palette for Your Entire Home Part 2: The Living/Great RoomThe high traffic rug, also from Room & Board, features vivid colors and hand tufted details like subtle waterfall edges. ACCESSORIES & ART

To further add to that modern appeal I am featuring the rich velvet texture and colors of Lauren Williams’ Modern Bohemian Home Collectionan addicting, fabulous collection that adds sophisticated detail with a bohemian spirit to special areas of your home, as beautifully described by Lauren herself. How to Create a Color Palette for Your Entire Home Part 2: The Living/Great RoomThese pieces are not only rich and full of delicious texture, but you can appreciate the attention to detail and the luxurious characteristics just by seeing them on her website and Instagram. In her prints you can almost feel the movement captured by the stupendous photography -- they invite you to touch the print, the movement is so palpable. The pièce de résistance in this room will be her tapestry. Her Canvas with Movement Tapestries.  These pieces are modern fiber art unlike any other. It is a beautiful expression of art in a manner I have not seen before. These pieces clearly have so much thought, work, and purpose poured into them that they literally come alive. How to Create a Color Palette for Your Entire Home Part 2: The Living/Great RoomThey are exactly what Lauren describes, canvas with movement. I personally cannot wait to add some of these amazing pieces to my studio, as well as her Modern-Bohemian Home Collection of velvet pillows and throws. They are simple and luscious, textured and definitely timeless accessories that will step up any decor. The colors selected for this room are all subtle, rich, and calm-producing, with a flare for lived-in luxury.

WHAT’S LIVED-IN LUXURY?

“Lived-in luxury” is my own concept. As a designer who was once admittedly self-conscious about the photos of my interiors when compared with interiors in magazines (comparison is your enemy!), I can honestly say now that there is a reason why my interiors do not look like those. It is not that my interiors are not as good or are not created with as much passion and dedication; it is simply that they are different. Why different? Well, first because each space is designed for that client and their desires, and also because just like everyone else, I am different and unique. [clickToTweet tweet="How to Create a Color Palette for Your Whole Home - Part 2 Living/Great Room" quote="How to Create a Color Palette for Your Whole Home - Part 2 Living/Great Room"]The spaces I tend to work on are lived-in spaces -- spaces with kids, pets, a family with busy professionals who not only want their home to look fabulous, they want it to feel comfortable and welcoming. I seem to attract clients who want their homes to be a representation of their souls and their lifestyle. My clients also want luxury and high-end finishes, but we strive for a collected and timeless appearance in the overall design. Each piece, each surface, each selection, small or large, is selected and curated carefully with lots thought and loads of information gathered from the client themselves. Each space is meant to evoke a specific feeling and ambiance for the people who live and play in it so that it is lived in. So the pieces selected for this example were also carefully chosen to represent our process. To spark your creativity and give you more jumping-off points, in the next post we’ll continue moving through the house, this time we will look at the color palette for the dining room. We’ll look at the anchor pieces and art, ways to keep the space clean and the process simple, and how you can make visible progress and continue to tie the colors, textures, and feel you want for your home into a cohesive and curated look.
